Editorial Policy and Source Standards
Purpose
This policy describes the standards applied to everything published on Mail-Well.com. The aim is accurate, checkable explanations of printing, mailing and paper packaging, written independently of any manufacturer or supplier.
Sources
Articles are built on documents that a reader can check: manufacturers’ technical data sheets and manuals, standards from recognised standards bodies, publications of trade associations, and reporting in established trade media. Each article lists its sources. Where a source is a company document, the article says whose it is. Statements that cannot be traced to a source are written as general explanation and are not presented as fact about a particular product or company.
Figures and specifications
Speeds, capacities, dimensions, tolerances and similar figures are given only when they come from a cited document, and they are stated with their conditions, such as the material, the format and the test method. Where no reliable figure is available, the article describes the factors that set the limit instead of inventing a number. Figures from different years or standards editions are not mixed as if they were current together, and the year of the source is stated.
Historical material
Historical articles tie each claim to a year and a source. They are summaries written in our own words; we do not copy company web pages, press releases, photographs or logos. Historical products and services are described as past facts and never as current offerings. Where sources disagree, the article says so.
Diagrams and images
Diagrams are drawn for this site and, where a drawing is schematic, it is labelled as such rather than as a particular manufacturer’s machine. Images are used only where we have the right to use them.
Use of AI tools
AI tools may be used to help outline, check terminology and prepare drafts. They are not treated as a source. Text is checked against the cited sources before it is published, and anything that cannot be supported is removed.
Updates and corrections
An article’s “Updated” date changes only when its content changes in a substantive way; routine edits do not move the date. When a published statement is found to be wrong, it is corrected on the page. Report errors through the Contact page.
Commercial relationships and links
Sponsored or paid links, if they are ever used, carry the appropriate link attributes. Editorial judgements are not sold, and links are chosen because they help a reader check or extend a point, not to pass ranking value.
Independence
This site is independent of the former Mail-Well, Inc., Cenveo and their successors. See About.
